Gregory David Kriesel (born January 20, 1965) was the bassist of the California punk rock band The Offspring from 1984 to 2018. Along with their singer Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles, Greg was one of the constant members of the band and has appeared on every album from 1989 to 2012. He is the co-founder of Dexter's label Nitro Records.

Greg was born in Glendale, California. However, he grew up in Orange County and attended Pacifica High School, where he was on the track and field team and met Dexter. He graduated there in 1983. Greg and Dexter decided to start a band after they failed to get into a Social Distortion concert in 1984. The two formed Manic Subsidal, where Greg played bass and Dexter played drums, the latter switched to both vocals and guitars after hiring James Lilja as the drummer. Noodles later joined the band as their second guitarist. No Manic Subsidal record have existed, but some demos have surfaced in recent years. By 1986, Manic Subsidal changed their name to The Offspring. The Offspring have since released nine full-length albums, four EPs, three compilation albums, three videos, one demo, one box set and twenty-five singles.

In August 2019, Kriesel filed a lawsuit against his Offspring bandmates Holland and Wasserman, following an alleged decision by the two in November 2018 to fire Kriesel from the Offspring and exclude him from band related activities such as studio recordings and live performances. Kriesel and his lawyers also alleged that the two conspired to "seize the business, business opportunities, and assets" of Kriesel's stake in the band without compensation. The situation is reminiscent of that of Kriesel's former bandmate and drummer Ron Welty. As the result of his absence from touring, he has been filled in by Tony Kanal of No Doubt, with touring guitarist Todd Morse later being named as Kriesel's replacement.

Personal life[]

Greg has been married to his wife Jane since 1998 and is a father of four sons. They currently live in the Huntington Harbour community in Huntington Beach, California.

On May 28, 2008, Greg announced on The Offspring's website that he was taking a hiatus from touring because of a "scheduled family matter", which meant that he was having a fourth child. Scott Shiflett of Face to Face (which once featured Pete Parada on drums) filled in for him on those shows Greg was absent on. Greg eventually returned to the band and is still a member today.
